Welcome to the 2017-18 Band Season!

The Boosters need you to step forward! We have vacant positions on our board that MUST be filled before band camp starts to ensure that the Marching Atoms have a fantastic show

  • Uniform Coordinator:  in charge of issuing and keeping track of marching band and concert uniforms. You already have helpers for this position, both students and parents, we just need YOU to be in charge. Cara Lauler, our graduated parent Uniform Coordinator has also left you a detailed binder on what to do all year long!  Lots of work at the school during band camp, then a few days of work at the school when the kids are issued concert uniforms (around November), and then again at the end of the school year when all uniforms get turned in.
  • Concessions Assistants:  Concessions is our second biggest fundraiser and takes a lot of manpower to run successfully.  Laura Byrne has been running concessions for two years and needs Assistants to replace graduated parents.  You'll help captain the stand during games, gather volunteers to work the games, keep track of inventory in the concession stand, and shop for supplies.  You can do any one of these jobs, or some of all of them.  Working Concessions is a GREAT way to meet all the band parents!  We have games every Friday in September-early November, then shut down for winter, and open back up for games in the spring.  If you can only do fall OR spring, you'll still be helping out tremendously!
  • Many chaperones, both male and female, are needed for away camp. Parents are needed to volunteer to stay at the camp with the students. This is a wonderful way to get to know the band!

Band and Ensemble Fee Policy

Schools cannot require a student to pay fees for course materials in excess of the amount approved by the FCPS School Board in Notice 5922."

Marching Band Intent Forms

All returning students as well as rising 9th graders must turn in a Marching Band Intent form before the last day of school (June 23). This form (along with $100 deposit) confirms a spot in the drill for marching band. The form also determines eligibility for Wind Ensemble or Symphonic Band. Students seeking a waiver from the marching band requirement for Symphonic Band must attach an explanation of their request to the Marching Band Intent form. If you missed kick-off night, all forms are available on the forms page.

IFTA

Each summer FCPS offers a program called Institute for the Arts. This year, they have added a personal finance module that fulfills the class required for graduation. This is an added bonus to an excellent program. Go to their web page for more information.
